Cards of the Day- 08/27/14 and 08/28/14

Quite a lot of cards today…including the heal tax the Weiss Schwarz English metagame was dreading

Wee

WS_KLK_S27_E001

Analysis: The level 2 RR in yellow is Mako. She’s an assist character that gives +X power where X is 500 times the character’s level. The second ability is interesting as it basically allows you to cheat out any character, but it requires both the climax combo and a “Rampage” Ryuko. This combo can be deadly at level 2 and can end games pretty quickly if they can’t deal with the card you cheat out.WS_KLK_S27_E019

Analysis: Not much to not like about this card. Soul + bounce trigger is always nice, combine that with the usual +1000 power and +1 soul to all characters, you have a solid climax.

[A] [(1) Discard a card from hand to the Waiting Room, Send this to Memory] When this becomes Reversed, you may pay cost. If so, choose 1 ‘”Berserk” Ryuko’ in your Waiting Room and put it Rested in the Slot this was in.
[A] RECOLLECTION If this is in Memory, when a card in either player’s Clock is moved to Waiting Room due to an effect of a card of its owner’s, that player may put the top 2 cards in their Stock in the Waiting Room. If not, that player puts the top card of the Library in Clock.

Analysis: The dreaded heal tax that Kill La Kill brings to the table. This is seriously going to hurt decks that rely heavily on heal at level 3…pretty much most of the decks out in English. It’s going to be interesting to see where decks go as a result of heal getting significantly worse.

WS_KLK_S27_E047Analysis: An interesting rare for sure. A level 1 with 7500 power at the cost of 1 stock is pretty good since it can’t even be reversed by a suicider. The downside is that when it ends up in your waiting room, you clock yourself for one.

“Moon High Group” Junpei
PQ/SE21-18 R CH
Red Level 1 Cost 1 Trigger 1 Soul
Power 2000 Soul 1 <Magic> <Weapon>

[Auto] RECOLLECTION When you use the 「BACKUP」 of this card, if there are cards in your opponent’s memory, choose 1 of your characters in battle, and that character gains +1500 Power for the turn.
[Act] [Counter] BACKUP 1500, Level 1 [(1) Discard this card from hand to the waiting room]

Analysis: The RECOLLECTION ability checking your opponent’s memory is certainly interesting.  A 3K character backup at level for 1 stock is certainly powerful. However, not all decks use recollection (the only ones off the top of my head are Miku, Kantai & Kill la Kill) so you’re not going to get the bonus in 100% of your matchups. Taking that into consideration, a 1.5K character backup at that level and cost is subpar. You’re going to have to seriously consider your metagame before choosing to run this or not.

”Eighth High Group” Rise
PQ/SE21-14 C CH
Green Level 2 Cost 1 Trigger 1 Soul
Power 8000 Soul 1 <Music> <Television>

[Auto] When this card becomes reversed in battle, put the top card of your library in the waiting room. If it’s a level 0 or lower character, you may put this card in stock.

Analysis: Not a bad card, there’s a decent chance you’re going to get this card into stock if you’re running 15-16 level 0 characters. Outside of that she doesn’t really bring much to the table as she’s only an 8K beater that doesn’t really do much else. I don’t know about you, but I demand more from my level 2 characters.

Date Lovers, Kanata
LB/WE21-21 C CH
Red Level 0 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 1500 Soul 1 <Chairman> <Twins>

[Auto] When the damage dealt by this card is canceled, you may choose 1 card in your opponent’s waiting room and put it on top of the library.
[Auto] When this card becomes reversed, if the level of the battle opponent of this card is 0 or lower, you may reverse that character.

Analysis: Now this is a suicider! The “when damage dealt by this is cancelled” clause is unique for a level 0 character, but is certainly a welcome edition. This ability can be used in 2 ways- attack with her first or second to put a character on top to try and get at least one ensured damage when you attack with your next attacker; force your opponent to draw something they’re not going to need, but this “mode” is less good. An extremely versatile level 0 suicider which will probably outclass the Kurigaya one from LB:Anime.

Ace Sniper, Saya
LB/WE21-28 C CH
Blue Level 1 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 4500 Soul 1 <Weapon> <Sports>

[Cont] During your opponent’s turn, for each of your other <Weapon> characters, this card gains +500 Power.
[Act] [Rest 2 of your characters] This card gains +2000 Power for the turn.

Analysis: This card is a decent level 1 character for your Weapon trait based decks. Resting your backstage characters to ensure she gets a bonus on attack and a static bonus on defense seems solid. If you’re not running a Weapon trait deck, you could do better in the way of level 1 characters.

08_28_14_jp_02

Secret Self-Training, Sasami
LB/WE21-14 C CH
Green Level 1 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 2000 Soul 1 <Animal> <Sports>

[Auto] When you use the 「BACKUP」 of this, if you have a <Sports> character, choose 1 of your characters in battle, and that character gains +1000 Power for the turn.
[Act] [Counter] BACKUP 1000, Level 1 [Discard this card from hand to the waiting room]

Analysis: Only really good if you have enough characters with the Sports trait…not so much anywhere else.

08_28_14_jp_03

Occasional Donuts, Komari
LB/WE21-04 C CH
Yellow Level 0 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 1000 Soul 1 <Sweets> <Fairy Tale>

[Auto] When this card becomes reversed, if the level of the battle opponent of this is 0 or lower, you may put that character in stock. If so, put the bottom card of your opponent’s library in the waiting room.
[Act] [(1)] Choose 1 of your opponent’s Level 0 or lower characters in the front row and put it in stock.

Analysis: The auto ability on this is a little strange, it’s not a true suicider, but being able to get rid of chunkier level 0 opposing characters is always good. The putting the bottom card of your opponent’s library is odd- really, bottom card? The Act ability does what the first ability does except instead of Komari being reversed, it only costs 1 stock which could be quite potent in the early going. However, the drawback might be too great for my liking, I don’t like giving my opponents stock…

08_28_14_jp_05

Head of the Academy Returns, Sakura
DC/WE20-11 C CH
Yellow Level 1 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 5000 Soul 1 <Magic> <Teacher>

[Auto] At the start of your encore step, if 「Dreamlike Scenery」 is in the climax zone, you may send this card to memory. If so, at the start of your next draw phase, choose 1 「Head of the Academy Returns, Sakura」 in your memory and put it in any slot on the stage, and for the turn, that character gains +3500 Power.

Analysis: Interesting card with a “flicker” ability on climax combo. I like that she comes back with a vengeance from memory and can pretty much run most opposing characters over.

08_28_14_jp_06

Dreamlike Scenery
DC/WE20-17 C CX
Yellow Trigger: 2 Soul

[Auto] When this card is placed from hand to the climax zone, choose up to 1 YELLOW card in your waiting room and put it in stock, and all your characters gain +1 Soul for the turn.

Analysis: A very interesting card in what it does. It can salvage a yellow card from your waiting room on play and gives all characters +1 soul for the turn. This is actually pretty good in any Da Capo decks that play yellow, but the climax combo is a bit wasted on a level 1.

08_28_14_jp_04

Shiki in Swimsuit
DC3/WE20-22 C CH
Red Level 0 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 2000 Soul 1 <Student Council> <Judgment>

[Auto] When this card is placed from hand to the stage, look at the top card of your library and put it either on top of the library or in the waiting room.
[Act] [Rest 2 of your characters] Choose 1 of your <Student Council> Characters, and that character gains +1500 Power for the turn.

Analysis: Being able to check the top card of your deck is a wealth of information. Being able to “scry” it away is also good in ensuring you have enough climaxes in your deck, getting the right amounts of damage in (no +2 Soul please) or ensuring you’ll pass the deck top check conditions on your other cards. The act ability is a nice bonus too.

08_27_14_jp_04

Overslept, Nanaka
DC/WE20-19 C CH
Green Level 1 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 6000 Soul 1 <Music> <Magic>

[Cont] Character opposite this gains +1 Soul.
[Auto] SHIFT Level 1

Analysis: A function reprint of the Irisviel trial deck exclusive from Fate/Zero with Shift. The drawback isn’t too harsh for an efficient beater that costs 0 stock.

08_27_14_jp_05

Minatsu in Swimsuit
DC/WE20-21 C CH
Red Level 0 Cost 0 No Trigger
Power 2000 Soul 1 <Mecha> <Banana>

[Act] BRAINSTORM [(1)] Flip over the top 4 cards of your library and put them in the waiting room. For each climax card revealed this way, perform the following action. 「Choose a character card in your waiting room and return it to your hand, then choose a card in your hand and put it in the waiting room.」

Analysis: A clear upgrade on cards like Silica’s Unyielding Trust. Spammable brainstormers are always good…but when they salvage too, that’s immense value. A definite include for all DC decks cause Brainstormers don’t really get better than this.
